Government Revenue & Expenditures

This visualization combines federal, state, and local government revenue and spending to show the big picture of where government money comes from and where it goes. Government revenue and expenditures are based on data from the Office of Management and Budget and the Census Bureau. Both sources publish the data annually; however, state and local government data are not as current as federal data due to varying collection times. This diagram was created in 2020 using 2018 data, the most up to date at the time.
