At USAFacts, we believe that making government data easy to access and understand is necessary for a thriving democracy and society. Increasingly, that means getting accurate and unbiased answers from AI. That’s why we welcome the White House’s call on Congress to “provide resources to make federal datasets accessible to industry and academia in AI-ready formats for use in training AI models and systems,” as part of its National Policy Framework for Artificial Intelligence released in March.

We have long worked with both sides of the aisle to make government data AI-ready. In 2024, under the prior administration, we partnered with the US Department of Commerce to provide guidelines and best practices for generative AI and open data. Today, we continue to advise government agencies looking to modernize their data systems so they can be accurately interpreted by AI tools. Our team of AI and data experts work with government data every day. We’ll keep sharing our expertise with agencies and Congress so Americans can use innovative technologies to access and understand the data they deserve.

Making government data AI-ready means that Americans can ask AI platforms about today’s pressing policy issues, and consistently get accurately cited, contextual government data on return. As more Americans rely on AI tools, making government data AI-ready is an imperative step to ensuring that facts continue to guide our country.
