The M-2 visa is designated for the spouses and children (under 21) of M-1 visa holders. The M-1 visa is for international students who are enrolled in vocational or non-academic programs in the United States. The M-2 visa allows family members to accompany the M-1 visa holder during their stay in the US while the primary visa holder completes their educational program.

The length of stay for an M-2 visa is tied to the duration of the M-1 visa holder’s authorized stay, and extensions are possible as long as the M-1 visa holder maintains their status and continues their program.

The State Department does not maintain a cap on M-2 visas.
