Armed Forces Personnel (Worldwide)

The number of personnel supporting national armed forces around the world numbered about 20.4M in 2019, down from 21.1M in 2009. China has the largest military force with about 1.78M members, followed by India at 1.55M and the United States at 1.34M. The Russian military numbered 890k and Ukraine’s force was about 270k members in that year. Iceland doesn’t have a military and another 104 countries were estimated to have militaries with fewer than 50k members.
