The number of personnel supporting national air forces around the world numbered about 2.5M in 2019, down from 2.6M in 2009. China has the largest air force with about 400k members, followed by the United States at 330k. The Russian air force numbered 160k and Ukraine’s air force was about 45k members in that year. Fifty-one countries were not reported to have an air force in 2019, according to the State Department’s release. Another 72 nations were reported to have an air force of less than 10,000 members.
