Percent of adults who are overweight

The overweight rate for the US adult population comes from the Behavioral Risk Factors Surveillance System, built by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. An individual is considered overweight when their body mass index (BMI) falls between 25 and 29.9. A BMI of 30 or higher is considered obese.

In 2021, 33.25% of the US population was overweight, an increase of less than 0.01 percentage points from 2020.
