Votes counted in presidential election

Votes counted in presidential election

Immediately following a presidential election, states count valid ballots to determine how to allocate their electors. The Electoral College then votes in December to decide who will become president. Later, the Federal Election Commission reports an official summary of voting statistics in all races by compiling state reporting, which is the basis of this figure.
